Movie Outing – Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatball 2

20131015-220137.jpg Tonight was movie night for us. It’s been a while since we caught a show and because Ben happen to have shown Phoebie the trailer of the movie, “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatball 2“, Ben thought Phoebie might enjoy the show. Neither of us had caught the first movie of the series, so we didn’t really know what to expect.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the creativity of the entire show. Some creatures in the movie were named in such amusing yet innovative ways. I shall not spoil for the surprise for those who have yet to watch it and will be catching it but I would like share a few of my favourites. There was a “shrimpanzee”, a “water-melephant” and a “taco-dile”. Sounds weird? Watch the show and you’ll get it.

The show reminded me a little of Jurassic Park, with all the big creatures and the discovery of a “new world”, except that it was certainly a more colourful and child-friendly version of it. Phoebie was rooted to the seat the whole time and was fascinated by the interesting scenes she saw.

I also liked the values that the movie taught. While there was an instigator of “bad”, there was reminder of being kind, forgiving and gracious, moving on from the past and embracing what is in the present. Of course, these values may sound a little too much for 3 year old Phoebie to totally understand, but for kids that are slightly older, I think they are good lessons taught through the film.

“Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatball 2” may not be the action-packed blockbuster kind of film, but as an animation, I think it’s great for kids. The colours are captivating, the creatures in the film are innovative and interesting, and the values taught are worth learning.
